The internationally operating dating and friendship website, OkCupid was claimed to be attacked by the cybercriminal group, Türk Hack Team. Cybersecurity researchers tweeted about the alleged OkCupid cyber attack with the below screenshot from the hackers’ leaking website.

Details known about the alleged OkCupid cyber attack

The OkCupid cyber attack has not been confirmed by the company, yet. The Cyber Express reached out to it via email and will update this report based on their response.

The website was down according to a tweet by the threat intelligence service, Falcon Feeds. The website displayed an error message about trouble with connecting to OkCupid and that users may try again to load the website.

The cybercriminal group Türk Hack Team posted screenshots on its dark web portal displaying the status of the targeted dating site after the OkCupid cyber attack. The post on the hacker’s website which had received nearly 397 comments at the time of tweeting said, “It is not just you. The server is not responding…”.

It is not clear how the alleged cyber attack on OkCupid impacted its systems or the data that was exfiltrated. Nor is the ransom amount been found, yet.

The Türk Hack Team posted screenshots of the website after launching the OkCupid cyber attack that showed the servers at various locations were down or experienced an error. Some of the impacted locations were Sydney, Vienna, Sau Paulo, Sofia, etc.

The website check status of the website after the OkCupid cyber attack was from June 27.

OkCupid’s adapting AI-powered search results

The growing popularity of matchmaking and artificial intelligence merged with OkCupid’s head of global communications Michael Kaye announcing a new category that would use the OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT.

“At OkCupid we always have our finger on the pulse of trending conversations within the technology industry,” Kaye said to TechCrunch. “What if we used ChatGPT to draft our famous matching questions that power our algorithm? That’s when we decided to test this new category of questions, which users have responded really well to,” Kaye added.

The Turf Hack Team recently claimed a cyber attack on 7 Star Alliance. The hacker group was founded early in 2004 and is among the oldest threat actors. The Anonymous Sudan group also announced their collaboration with the Turk Hack Team.

The founder of the Truesec Group Marcus Murray published a LinkedIn post that confirmed the same along with other details about their future cyber attack plans. The post published 2 months ago read, “It’s only 2 weeks left to the Turkish election and only 2 month until the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11-12, this is a crucial time for Russia to interfere with the Swedish NATO application by attempting to influence Türkiye not to approve, or delay the ratification.”

The group was found making a reference to a historical region of Iranian origin, Turan in what appears to be a website defacement cyber attack. The homepage displayed the above shown graphics with a message accusing western and eastern powers disrupting their nation’s unity and togetherness.

“….You should not forget that this nation’s past is filled with victory and that it thirsts for one still. Everyone should know Turan Ordusu (The Army of Turan) is to never let go of its fight,” the website page stated.

Although the Russian Turan Group in Syria bore similarities with another Russian private military company in Syria, Wagner group, the Wagner group launched a cyber attack on Russia to recruit more members to its group.
