This exclusive data will not only help individuals make informed choices but also guide them in crafting a list of certifications that align with their goals.

Market Trends Analysis: Least Preferred Cybersecurity Certifications

The landscape of cybersecurity education is continually evolving, and what was once considered a well-known and sought-after certification may not hold the same relevance today. Many cybersecurity professionals have obtained certifications in specific fields that were highly coveted in the past.

To ensure you make informed decisions in your pursuit of cybersecurity knowledge and career advancement, it’s crucial to stay up-to-date with current market trends.

By identifying the least preferred cybersecurity courses through this market trends analysis, you can make your journey in the field more efficient and effective.

Here are the results highlighted in The Market Trends Research by The Cyber Express:

  1. SANS GIAC Security Expert (GSE) – Ranked as the least chosen cybersecurity certification among the respondents, indicating lower popularity in the current landscape.
  2. GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) – Came in as the second least preferred cybersecurity course, further emphasizing its relatively lower demand among professionals.
  3. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security – Occupied the third position among the least preferred certifications, signaling a shift in focus towards other options.
  4. Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) – Despite being ranked fourth in the top 10 cybersecurity certifications, it still garnered attention from respondents, highlighting its continued relevance and demand in the field.
  5. Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) – While it held the fifth position in the survey, it was actually sixth in the overall ranking of most preferred cybersecurity certifications, indicating a strong preference for other certifications ahead of it.

According to the survey results, which gathered responses from a diverse group of professionals in the cybersecurity field, several courses were notably among the least preferred. To provide a breakdown of the respondents’ backgrounds:

– 41.62% of the respondents identified themselves as security engineers.
– 27.16% of the respondents held positions as cybersecurity analysts.
– 23.90% of the respondents worked as information security officers.

These statistics highlight the collective opinion of professionals from various roles within the cybersecurity industry, offering valuable insights into which courses may be falling out of favor among different segments of the workforce.

Among the others were IT managers accounting for 6.94% of the people surveyed and finally, 0.38% were professionals from related fields.

Why these Cybersecurity Certifications Received Fewer Votes?

Breaking down the market trends analysis, the voting pattern brought to light why the certifications received the least votes.

  1. SANS GIAC Security Expert (GSE) – Despite its elite status, the GSE certification was perceived as more niche, possibly indicating that it appeals to a specific subset of cybersecurity professionals with specialized interests or career goals.
  2. GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) – While the GSEC certification is commonly found on many cybersecurity professionals’ resumes, it was not as highly ranked in the survey. However, it still attracted attention for its focus on fundamental cybersecurity concepts, suggesting its enduring relevance.
  3. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security – Respondents who selected CCNA Security may have been interested in acquiring skills related to developing security infrastructure and effectively detecting and mitigating threats within network environments.
  4. Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) – CCSP, which focuses on cloud security, received significant interest from the respondents. This certification is evidently valued for its coverage of designing and securing data within cloud environments, aligning with the increasing importance of cloud security.
  5. Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) – OSCP’s balanced number of votes indicates that it remains a popular choice among cybersecurity professionals. This certification provides a hands-on experience in penetration testing, offering a valuable glimpse into the world of ethical hacking and vulnerability assessment.

Further breaking down the results of the market trends report, TCE found that the three least preferred cybersecurity certifications namely SANS GIAC Security Expert, GIAC Security Essentials Certification, and Cisco Certified Network Associate Security could be more open to exploring emerging trends and cybersecurity topics.

These three certifications cater to a niche audience who consider them invaluable in guiding about the specialization they offer. However, it can cover topics of global importance in terms of security and asset management in keeping with the outlook needed to address today’s risk and threat landscape.
