WhatsApp Services Restored After Major Outage

WhatsApp users around the world reported difficulties while trying to send and receive messages on the platform. Sources claim that the outage began at 3 am EDT and affected millions worldwide. The outage prevented users from using the app for almost two hours.

The services were later restored, with the app functioning as usual for several users. However, for those facing communications errors, Meta has assured that it is working towards fixing the problem. WhatsApp is a meta-owned communication application with over 2 billion users worldwide.

WhatsApp outage explained

WhatsApp was down for almost two hours today, leaving the users unable to communicate via text messages. Sources claim that several thousand users reported a WhatsApp outage in their region — 65,000 reports in the UK, 10,000 in France, and so on.

The app users began suspecting the outage when the platform failed to connect. The text “connecting to the server” was noticed by many users at the top of their screens. However, the application did not connect and went into a loophole.

On discovering the disruption, many took to social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to report the issue. Twitter had over 70,000 tweets and several hundred memes about WhatsApp being down. However, the good news is that the developers patched the problem before it could harm any business or users.

Usually, such disruptions on the platform happen due to security updates, server changes, or adding new features to the application. Addressing the outage, a spokesperson for Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, said, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages, and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”

The story is in development mode. TCE will update this post after confirming more information.
