In a significant revelation, a recent report has unveiled a series of data breaches within hacker forums.
These breaches, as reported by Hudson Rock, have impacted over 120,000 compromised computers, resulting in the exposure of approximately 100,000 hackers, complete with their identities, on prominent cybercrime forums.
As per the report, more than 100 prominent cybercrime forums have fallen victim to the hacker forum data leak, which exposed the credentials of their users.
The compromised information extracted from each affected computer encompasses a range of data, including emails, usernames, autofill details like names, addresses, and phone numbers, as well as system particulars such as computer names and IP addresses.
Hacker Forum Data Breach Exposes 100,000 Hackers
Among the websites from the hacker forum data breach, the infamous forum “Nulled.to” stands out with over 57,000 compromised users, marking one of the most prominent hacker forum data breach incidents.
Following “Nulled.to” data breach are “Cracked.io” and “Hackforums.net,” who also fell victim to this hacker forum data breach.
The report also analyzed user passwords across various forums and pinpointed “Breached.to” as the forum with the most robust passwords, while the Russian site “Rf-cheats.ru” exhibited the weakest passwords.
Interestingly, passwords implicated in this hacker forum data breach display greater strength than those used on government websites, even outperforming industries like the military regarding password security.
Redline is predominantly attributed as the primary source of this hacker forum data breach, followed by Raccoon and Azorult.
In terms of geographical distribution, the five countries with the highest number of hackers implicated in this hacker forum data breach include:
- Tunisia (7.55% of total infections)
- Malaysia (6% of total infections)
- Belgium (5.14% of total infections)
- Netherlands (4.8% of total infections)
- Israel (4.43% of total infections)
The hacker forum data breach saga continues to unfold
Interestingly, a similar incident occurred in July 2023 when Bitdefender reported another hacker forum data breach, consisting of one of the infamous cybercrime forums, BreachForums. Adding to the narrative, BreachForums also fell victim to a hacker forum data breach incident.
According to Bitdefender, “Have I Been Pwned” (HIBP) verified the hacker forum data breach involving BreachForums.
“The platform “Have I Been Pwned” (HIBP), renowned for alerting users about data breaches, has verified the receipt of the breach data. This development highlights the irony of those who once exploited others’ data now facing a similar fate”, read the Bitdefender report.
Similarly, in another case, the notorious hacking forum, RaidForums, known for hosting, leaking, and selling stolen data, saw its member database leak, exposing user details from March 2015 to September 2020.
As for the BreachForums data breach, this hacker forum fell victim to an incident in November 2022, and ultimately law enforcement agencies apprehended the site’s operator, leading to the seizure of the site.
The breach exposed hackers, thousands of records, encompassing usernames, IP and email addresses, private messages, stored passwords, and other confidential information about its users.
