Following their assertion of cyberattacks on various Israeli organizations, the relatively new cybercriminal group, Cyber Toufan, has now asserted accountability for the recent Ikea Israel data breach.
In a post titled “Day Four, Leak Two” on the dark web, the hacker collective identified the well-known furniture retail giant, alleging possession of Ikea users’ information subsequent to the alleged Ikea Israel data breach.
“Tonight’s drop is part of the users table of Ikea Israel, with over 400K users. Names, numbers, hashes (Passwords). Emails,” read the message on the dark web post.
The purported claims made by Cyber Toufan have yet to be substantiated. The Cyber Express team has initiated contact to verify the alleged Ikea Israel data breach and is awaiting their response for further confirmation.
Cyber Toufan Targets Israel, Claims Ikea Israel Data Breach
In their post, the cybercriminal gang further stated that they are carrying out cyberattacks to avenge the ongoing Israel-Hamas war which has been going on for over 47 days now. The attacks, according to the hacker collective, are being carried out as an act of revenge for the death of children and Israeli occupation of their land.
“So long as the war continues, we will continue to strike every day and every night. We will continue to drop gifts for those that want to avenge the deaths of our children, the occupation of our lands, and the expelling of our brothers and sisters from their homes,” read the post,
The Cyber Toufan Ikea Israel breach is also a part of the series of revengeful cyberattacks. According to an update, “The newly-formed Cyber Toufan Operations group has been targeting entities backed by Israel.”
They have claimed responsibility for breaching several organizations, including Max Security (a cybersecurity and geo-intelligence company), the Israel Innovation Authority, Radware (another cybersecurity firm), the Israeli government’s National Archives, and Shefa Online, an Israel-based service,” stated a tweet by Falcon Feeds.
Simultaneously, Israel Innovation Authority (formerly known as Chief Scientist Office of Israel) also allegedly fell victim to the hands of group. The Israel Innovation Authority is supporting arm of the Israeli government for fostering industrial research and development in the country.
In the face of the Cyber Toufan group‘s reprehensible actions, the Ikea Israel data breach serves as a stark reminder of the far-reaching impact of cyber warfare. Beyond claiming to compromise the personal data of over 400,000 users, the group’s motives appear rooted in a disturbing context of geopolitical conflict, as they claim to avenge the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
